Equality Is For Everyone

In Paula Stone’s Ted Talk "I've lived as a man and a woman. It made me realize and put my foot in the shoes of the individuals who go through this journey and how many rejections they face in their everyday lives. When she talked about the different experiences she experienced as both male and female it was very eye opening to see the gender inequality. Listening to Paula's talk encourages me even more to continue to treat everyone whether a friend or stranger the same regardless of who they may be.

After reading the article on The Report of the 2015 U.S Transgender Survery Excutive Summary I was extremely  surprised to see the statics of how many individual experience harassment. It's very heartbreaking to see that we live in a world like this. In a world where every parent wants to make sure their children are safe and sound, in a world where we go to jobs, offices and schools all this happens so frequently. Most of the time we tend to think this doesn't happen so often but in reality it happens way more than we hear about it.

I was shocked to see the Siena Student Climate Survey and to see that 100% of Siena transgender students expressed that they had personally experienced bias/harassment/discrimination during their college exprince. It's very upsetting to know that this happens at our campus where most students spend more time than they probably do at home with the expectation to receive the college experience they always wished for. Noone expects or should be treated differently for they are. I am not sure not everyone in Siena played a role for them to experience that. My personal experience with Siena faculty and students have been amazing and I know Siena College always takes any bias/harassment/discrimination very sersolty and handless as it the way it should be. I think as a campus we should all try to increase the awareness of such situations and educate all the students to prevent situations like this in the future. Not only should we educate the students on this topic but we should also encourage students to stand up and speak against it.
